Beryllium-Copper Casting Alloys

Beryllium-Copper Casting Alloys

Beryllium Copper casting alloys are utilized to produce component parts which require their unique combination of physical and mechanical properties. Foundry applications for beryllium copper casting alloys take advantage of the material’s special combination of high strength and hardness, outstanding thermal and electrical conductivity, and excellent replication of fine casting detail.

High Strength Beryllium-Copper Casting Alloys (20C, 165C, 21C, 245C, AND 275C)

These products provide outstanding thermal management characteristics and electrical conductivity. The alloys exhibit good strength, coupled with excellent anti-galling, corrosion resistance and material toughness properties. The high conductivity BeCu casting alloys are specified in applications demanding high electrical and/or thermal conductivity, i.e. resistance welding components, undersea fiber optic cable housing components. These specialized, comparatively lower beryllium content percentage alloys, provide thermal conductivity properties that are far superior to most aluminum, magnesium, and steel alloys. Chemical Composition: High-Conductivity Beryllium-Copper Casting Alloys

High Conductivity Copper-Beryllium Casting Alloys ( 3C, 10C, and 14C )

These products provide mechanical strength and hardness values greater than many steel alloys, but with comparatively superior thermal and electrical conductivity. These 2.0 to 2.75 percent beryllium content alloys (referred to as “gold” alloys due to their distinctive gold coloration) provide outstanding wear, material toughness, and anti-galling characteristics. High strength BeCu alloys are specified in applications demanding a combination of maximum strength, hardness, and toughness. In challenging foundry applications where exact replication of fine casting detail is required, the high strength beryllium copper and beryllium nickel alloys offer fluidity and castability unmatched in other structural alloy systems.
