VANCOUVER, BC — September 11, 2009 — IBC Advanced Alloys Corp. (TSX-V: IB) (“IBC” or the “Company”) is pleased to announce it will be presenting at the 9th IEA International Workshop on Beryllium Technology for nuclear applications being held in Almaty, Kazakhstan on the 15th to 17th of September.
The conference, sponsored by Kazatomprom, the national atomic energy company of Kazakhstan, is to present research and technology developments concerning beryllium utilization in both fission and fusion nuclear power systems. IBC will be joining delegates, scientists and nuclear engineers from Kazatomprom, Brush Wellman, the Japanese Atomic Energy Agency, Axsys Technologies, the Idaho Falls National Laboratory and others.
Dr. Alvin Solomon, Professor Emeritus at Purdue University’s School Nuclear Engineering, and head of IBC’s Nuclear Fuels Advisor Board, will be giving a presentation entitled the “Development and Characterization of UO2 BeO Fuel Pellets”. This research serves as the foundation for the collaborative research project currently underway between IBC, Purdue and Texas A&M Universities.
IBC signed a collaborative research agreement with Purdue in August 2008 to focus on developing a new type of beryllium oxide enhanced nuclear fuel that has higher thermal conductivity and is therefore potentially longer lasting, more efficient and safer than current nuclear fuels. The objective of the research is to commercially develop a beryllium enhanced nuclear fuel for optimal use in both current and future nuclear reactors.
“We are very pleased to be participating in such an important event being hosted by Kazatomprom, acknowledged leaders in the nuclear sector,” said Anthony Dutton, President and CEO of IBC. “We share their commitment to exploring and commercializing beryllium technologies for nuclear applications and look forward to exchanging ideas with our Kazakh and international colleagues as we advance our own research initiatives.”
